About Eugene

After gaining my BSc in Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy in 1995, I came to New Zealand on my Big OE and have been working here ever since.

I use a wide range of gentle osteopathic techniques and am always happy to work as part of a team approach with other people who look after your health such as midwives, lactation consultants, physiotherapists, doctors, acupuncturists, personal trainers, etc to help you achieve your best health outcomes.

Continuing my professional development is an important part of my work philosophy. I regularly attend courses to keep up with the latest in research and techniques for best practice.

I have a particular interest in working with newborns, expectant Mums, stress related issues, the elderly and mobility pre/post surgery.

For me, it is both a priviledge and a joy to help people make long‑term, positive changes by addressing the underlying causes of their health concerns, not just the symptoms.

Outside of the clinic, you’ll often find me walking the dog, fishing for trout, or enjoying the beautiful Upper Hutt environment.

I live locally with my wife, our four children, and our much‑loved furry friend.

What to expect during your first treatment

Visiting an osteopath for the first time can feel like a big step, so we make the process clear and comfortable from the start. At Upper Hutt Osteo, your first appointment begins with a detailed discussion of your health history, current symptoms, and any concerns you’d like to address.

We then carry out a gentle physical examination, guiding you through simple movements to assess your posture, mobility, and how your body is functioning. This helps us understand the underlying causes of issues such as back pain, neck pain, joint stiffness, or headaches.

After the assessment, we’ll explain our findings in plain language and outline a tailored treatment plan. Treatment usually begins in this first session and may include gentle hands‑on techniques to improve movement, reduce discomfort, and support your body’s natural healing.

To help you continue progress at home, we may also suggest easy stretches or exercises designed to support recovery and prevent future problems.

Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, recovering from injury, or looking for ongoing support for your overall wellbeing, your first osteopathy appointment is the first step toward feeling better.

Frequently asked questions

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a well-established form of hands-on healthcare that has been practised since the 1870s. It focuses on the musculoskeletal system—your bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues—to support the body’s natural ability to heal and function well.

Using gentle techniques such as massage, stretching, and joint mobilisation, osteopaths aim to relieve pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall wellbeing. Osteopathy is suitable for people of all ages, from newborns to seniors, and can help with a wide range of conditions, including back and neck pain, joint issues, postural strain, and more.

At Upper Hutt Osteo, we take a whole-person approach to care—listening carefully, treating respectfully, and working with you to restore comfort and confidence in your body.

How can Osteopathy help me?

Osteopathy supports the body’s natural healing processes by relieving pain, improving mobility, and enhancing circulation. Through gentle, hands-on techniques, it encourages better blood flow and lymphatic drainage—helping reduce inflammation, restore function, and promote overall wellbeing.

What is Structural Osteopathy?

Structural Osteopathy is a specialised form of manual therapy that focuses on diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal dysfunctions. It aims to restore balance and function to the body through targeted techniques such as joint mobilisation, muscle release, and soft tissue massage.

By improving alignment, reducing tension, and enhancing movement, Structural Osteopathy helps relieve pain, support recovery, and improve overall physical wellbeing. It’s particularly effective for issues like postural strain, joint restrictions, and muscular imbalances.

At Upper Hutt Osteo, we tailor structural treatments to each individual—combining clinical insight with gentle, effective care

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy is a gentle, specialised form of osteopathic care that focuses on relieving subtle strains, compressions, and tension throughout the body—especially in the head, spine, and sacrum. Using light, precise touch, it supports the body’s natural healing processes and helps restore ease of movement and balance.

This calming approach is suitable for people of all ages, but is especially well known for its use with newborns, children, and expectant mothers. Many parents seek cranial osteopathy to support their baby’s comfort after birth, while others find it helpful during times of stress, fatigue, or developmental change.

At Upper Hutt Osteo, we offer cranial care with sensitivity, experience, and a deep respect for the body’s innate wisdom.

Is Osteopathy covered by ACC?

Yes—Upper Hutt Osteo is ACC accredited. If your injury was caused by an accident, your osteopathic treatment may be covered under ACC.
We can help lodge a new claim directly at the clinic or treat you under an existing claim that’s already been approved. We are happy to guide you through the process.
